The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the first tri services academy in the world, where the cadets from all the three armed forces i.e. The Army, the Navy and the Air Force are trained together. It was established on 7 December 1954 at Khadakwasla 17 km southwest from Pune city northwest to Khadakwasla Lake; its campus spreads over 7015 acres. The NDA is recognized by the Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, to award the degree of B.A./B.Sc/B.Sc computer science. After the completion of three year course, army cadets proceed to I.M.A at Dehradun, naval cadets to Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala and air force cadets to the Air Force Academy at Hyderabad. After three years at Academy they are sent for the completion of one year training at their respective academies, to be commissioned as officers into respective services.
